Orange County is growing. More people. More homes and businesses. More demand for electric energy. Central Hudson’s power transmission facilities that were built many years ago, which have been serving you and your neighbors faithfully, day in and day out ever since, will not be able to keep pace much longer. That’s why we’re planning some much-needed electric system improvements in Orange County for Orange County residents. I The WM Line was originally built in the 1920s and 1930s. The line has served the area for 80 years, but now energy usage is approaching its capacity limit. To serve the increasing demand for electricity in the area, the 12-mile transmission line must be rebuilt. Central Hudson has propsed to rebuild the line primarily in its existing alignment, with the exception of areas in the villeges of Walden and Montgomery where significant development has occurered since the line was orginally constructed. The line runs from the East Walden substation in the Town of Montgomery to the Rock Tavern Substation in the Town of New Windsor. Central Hudson has performed environmental reviews to identify any natural and historical features that should be preserved, and is conducting other analyses to determine the best way to reconstruct the line. Filed applications with various state and local authority are available through the links at right.
